What is happening up on the Sunny Coast?
Should be packing! On Tuesday Kristian and I are going to the Philippines for the 70.3. I’m very happy that I’ve got Kristian’s company this time. Neither of us have been there before, so it’s going to be quite an adventure. We have a Filo friend, and we’ve been quizzing her- mainly about the food- sounds fantastic- things like Adobo ( chicken and pork in soy and vinegar sauce), Beef Sinigang ( Beef in Tamarind Soup), Daing na Bangus ( fish) , Pancit Canton ( noodles). The cuisine is a mix of Malaysian chinese…and to make sure we drink bottled water.
The race is at Camarines Watersports Complex, a water sports park, like for wakeboarding etc. It all looks beautiful. I’ll have to remember I’m there to race, not swan up and down the beach taking photos…
We’ve been back in Aus for about 2 and a half weeks, 3 by the time we leave. Training has been solid. The plan has been to keep the volume low, and train specifically the 70.3 distance, no long stuff yet. I like it because it’s all I need right now after such a big year. As coach K says “I have endurance coming out of my wotsits”. It’s kept me fresh, both mentally and physically. After the Philippines we have less than 3 weeks here in Oz before we’re off to Hawaii- WOOHOO! It’s a big luxury to be able to go there so early. We have a beautiful place this year, quite close to town on Alii Drive, with an ocean view…we’re too old to be roughing it! There’s got to be some benefits.
So we’ll be doing the longer rides and runs once we hit the Big Island(mid Sept). Hopefully with some company from Paolina Allan (Scottish/Canadian)- who I met in Muskoka last year. She’s really cool, and I look forward to her company…
Some random pics from August…

just blue- we had 2 weeks of this, not one drop of rain- absolute heaven for training. And winter??

breakfast can be tiring- this is where the sun shines in the mornings- so we eat brekkie on the doorstep

These are Kristian's first pair of Oakley razorblades from ohhh, circa 1990. I'd love to race in these, but would hate to break them!

another busy day at the pool! Always a lane to ourselves, and often one lane each, at Coolum Beach.
please wait a tick
