Scody
Beautifully made triathlon clothing.
I’m truly glad to be involved in this fast growing company. They are constantly redesigning and experimenting with new technically advanced fabrics, as they are committed to making garments people love to wear. I enjoy being part of this process and helping them gain greater popularity as a quality brand in the triathlon and cycling industry worldwide. A caring company who also have Ironman Champions Tim Berkel and Bek Keat on their team of loyal athletes. They make me my very own custom kit, don’t underestimate the look good- feel good advantage!
Kestrel
I’m fast realizing that this is a brand with long standing history and a cult following in triathlon. They were the first company to make a carbon time trial bike. People often look at my bike adoringly, tell me their first bike was a Kestrel and that they absolutely loved it, and they still have it in the garage, unable to part with it. Kestrel is on a comeback and has a new TT bike to be revealed shortly. I ride the Airfoil SE SL in a 47cm frame. It’s one of very few bikes that enable someone my size (5ft3) to get aero.
Trigger Point Technologies
My rollers are my toothbrushes! I use them daily to prevent injuries and keep my muscle tissue in optimal condition. They travel round the World with me and I honestly would be lost without them. They are an indispensable tool used to maintain range of motion whilst preventing time on the sidelines. Just 30 minutes a day and I’m done. Trigger Point provide the tools and the education to empower you to look after yourself, save money on physio bills and prevent disappointment from injury.
3T
They come from Italy, and we all know about things designed in Italy! Sexy sleek carbon. I chose to ride the 3T Brezza. I find them very comfortable, which is my top priority. When I’m not in the TT position the hand grips are quite substantial- which I like, and the flat section of the bar is narrow enough for me to get my hands around. They have plenty of scope for adjustment, and the arm rests sit nice and low- so that I get a good drop.
Nike
The first pair of proper trainers I ever owned were Nike- something like the Waffle. They make such a huge range of running shoes that there’s a shoe for every foot. I train in neutral lightweight trainers or racing flats; the lunar racer, lunar trainer and my long time staple the marathoner. I’ve also been testing the speed spider on the treadmill and for short sharp speed work, they’re so responsive and the sole grips like a gecko! They’d be awesome for short course racing. I race ironman in the lunar racer- I love this shoe. It’s an incredibly light shoe that just feels fast. I do my gym work and all my walking in Free 5.0s, which mimic the barefoot and so strengthen my feet. I even have a pair of limited edition Dunks, in yellow and Liberty fabric, for special occasions.
BioCeuticals Sports Supplements
This company was my saviour- at the end of 2007 I was run down and couldn’t get over a cough that ended up lasting 5 months. I was at the end of my tether and they saved my triathlon career from a serious hiatus. After a trip for a live blood analysis the BioCeuticals Naturopath put me on a comprehensive supplement program. Within 6 weeks my health had turned around. I’ve stuck to the plan ever since. Undeniably BioCeuticals supplements keep me healthy and able to back up race after race, season after season. It’s important to me to maintain long-term health and BioCeuticals helps me do so.
Blue Seventy
I’ve swum in a few different suits over the years, but my Helix wins. Aquashop are the suppliers of Blue Seventy in Australia, and I think they offer the best customer service of any shop selling anything that I have ever experienced! No joke. What company is reluctant to sell you something over the phone, makes you promise to call when you receive the product, then after-hours, talks to you through getting it on and knows the product well enough to tell you it’s not your size! And there’s more…Aquashop are at Ironman Australia and Western Australia pre-race, making sure queues of B70 athletes have their suits on properly and are ready to go!
SRAM
I have “made the leap” and will be powered by SRAM for the upcoming World Champs in Hawaii.
I’m very excited to have this new sponsor on board in time for the lead up to Hawaii. I have plenty of time to test drive the new components out on the Queen K. When you think of SRAM you think of innovation, design, revolutionary ideas and great looking carbon. All SRAM components share the same core purpose: to bring precision, durability, and ease of actuation to you in a light, ergonomic, and aerodynamic package that has no match.
Computrainer
I feel privileged and extremely excited to have the opportunity to train using a CompuTrainer. It will be a huge benefit in getting me to the next level. I am often forced to play catch up on the run, which is not always possible! Much of my training currently utilizes a wind trainer which does not provide feedback. Computrainers advanced features will isolate weaker areas, accurately monitor my improvement and keep a record of all my sessions.
This year in preparation for Hawaii I will remain mostly in the Australian winter- where indoor training will play a larger role. I’m really looking forward to using the interactive real course videos of Kona. It’ll be a huge advantage to arrive in Kona already knowing the course inside out, and having trained specifically for it.
Zipp
They are the gold standard in racing wheels; light, stiff, responsive, aerodynamic and fast. I currently train on 404 clinchers, and race on 404 tubulars. I know they’re not going to catch the wind, and they’re suitable for any course. Zipp dominate the racing wheel market for good reason!
High 5
I’ve tried many different brands, this one being the first I ever tried. I’ve come back to it, as I know it’s gentle on the stomach and delivers long lasting continuous energy. Nutrition is the 4th leg in an Ironman, and you can’t afford any errors, especially in harsh racing conditions such as China or Hawaii. High5 offers a wide range of products that cover all of my needs in great tasting varieties.
Timex
Sporty, reliable, accurate and good-looking! I no longer wear a heart rate monitor so enjoy wearing their small, lightweight funky and affordable watches. I race in the OVA- that sits on your wrist at such an angle that you don’t have to turn it to see! Simple but brilliant!
Oakley
The coolest, most robust sunnies ever made for triathletes. My current favorites are the Enduring and Flaks, with the Photochromic lense (that lighten and darken automatically)- in of course my custom colors. Love that you rarely ever see 2 pairs the same. But hate that you’re bound to get sunnies envy!
Tri Travel
A travel company run by triathletes for triathletes. Shane Smith’s team is dedicated to providing triathletes with the complete experience, hassle free, social, their motto, “we’ll get you to any start line…but finishing is up to you!” Ironman can be stressful enough without having to worry about race week logistics, especially when you’re overseas. This is a great way to make friends and be surrounded by people who can and want to help you.
Hypo2
Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy! This is becoming increasingly popular as a tool to both speed up recovery from training and to expedite recovery from surgery, injury and illness. What does it do? It increases oxygen intake by exposing the body to oxygen at a higher than normal atmospheric pressure, causing super saturation of oxygen in the plasma and tissue fluids. For athletes it’s great for reducing inflammation. Whilst I lived in Sydney I was a regular visitor of Hypo2. I would always fall asleep in the chamber- an amazingly deep sleep. I knew not many athletes used hyperbaric therapy so it was the ace up my sleeve! Faster recovery=Better quality training.
Performance Health Newport
When I first started triathlon I had no idea about body maintenance, so I got injured pretty quickly. Going into my first Ironman I had foot pain. A few days before the race, I visited the ART tent at the expo. I was treated by one of the Australian ART practitioners, Daryl Phillips of Performance Health Newport. He fixed my foot by treating my glutes and blew me away! I had no idea foot pain could come from my butt! I’ve been getting regular ART treatment from Daryl ever since. Along with my masseur, they are my dentist, and my toothbrush is my Trigger Point Therapy tools which I use every day.
